Lloyds Pharmacy Skin Effect Day Cream: 15% More Hydration In 15 Minutes?

Hello lovelies! Today I'm talking all about moisturisers. I'm not going to lie, I haven't had much luck in the moisturiser department before. As far as skincare products go, this is the one that I feel can either make or break my skin. It took me a long time to realise that certain moisturisers weren't for me (I know, stupid right?). I have oily skin so I need a moisturiser which will help prevent that end of the day oil slick look. It's no fun coming home unintentionally looking like the joker is it? As I tend to go for oil free moisturisers, I don't feel that they're moisturising enough but at least they prevent oil related blemishes so a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do...

I was recently asked if I'd like to try this Skin Effects Day Cream* (£7.99) from the new range created by Lloyds Pharmacy. Yes, Lloyds Pharmacy! There is something very appealing about trying a range from a pharmacy as I feel like there will be less trickery involved plus they should know what they're doing, right? As someone who is in constant battle with their skin, I couldn't wait to see how I got on with this although a little scared as this day cream isn't oil free. It does claim that it is for all skin types though so let's see how I got on, shall we?

The Claims:
- For all skin types
- Packed with rejuvenating ingredients
- Increased hydration by 15% in 15 minutes
- Includes beeswax, HydraMatix complex and Vitamin B5 for it's anti ageing properties and ability to regenerate tissue
- Free from Parabens, Allergens, Colourants and Petroleum

Thoughts:
I love how simple the packaging is. This Skin Effect day cream comes in a see through coloured glass pot which as you all know, I love a good pot and I'm a fan of purply pink tones so we were off to a good start instantly. The first thing I noticed about the cream was the scent. It kind of reminds me of Sudocreme for some reason. I used to love doing a Sudocreme mask on an evening so I guess I'm used to that perfume smell. It may not be for everyone so I'd just bare that in mind especially if you aren't a fan of perfumed skincare products. Scent aside, the cream has a lovely texture. Due to it being on the thicker side though, I was worried about it forming a layer on my skin and not sinking in. Surprisingly, I was wrong as this absorbs into the skin instantly without leaving a greasy residue behind which is always a winner especially if you're about to apply your makeup.

Results:
Ok, so Lloyds Pharmacy claim that Skin Effects will increase moisture by 15% within 15 minutes. So did it work? Absolutely! My skin feels completely different than I'm used to as my usual moisturiser is oil free. It feels more hydrated after use and incredibly soft to touch. I've also tried this under makeup and as it sinks in straight away, I don't begin melting instantly. I've been using a matte foundation lately and as it is very drying, Skin Effects allows the makeup to apply a lot smoother as it doesn't cling as much to the dry patches around my nose. I know this is a day cream but I've been naughty and using it as a night cream too. It's just so moisturising that it works really well whilst I'm sleeping. My only complaints are that the scent may not be for everyone and that you have to use your fingers to get the product out. It isn't too hygienic but that can be solved by washing your hands first.

As this is for all skin types, I haven't had any problems with excess oil or blemishes and my skin is feeling less stuck to my face which is always good. I would recommend this to anyone who fancies trying a new moisturiser and especially to those with dry skin or who need a moisture boost. Lloyds haven't just brought out a day cream, they've brought out a full Skin Effect range which covers almost everything you could think of. Usually trips to the pharmacy are quite depressing but at least you can have a browse at their new range whilst you're waiting for your prescription next time.

Have you tried any of this range yet? Let me know your thoughts!

  6. This sounds so good, I never think of buying pharmacy brands but you're right, they should be better than cosmetic brands really. I haven't quite mastered the moisturiser either, mine are either not moisturising enough or they just sit on my skin. I'm using a Neal's Yard sample at the moment though and that's really nice.
