Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water: Is It Worth The Hype?

Hello lovelies! Today I'm talking about my latest skincare favourite. Everyone and their dog has tried this. Execpt for me and I don't have a dog. Yes, of course I'm talking about Garnier's Micellar Water. I actually tried a L'Oreal one a few years ago and didn't really think much of it. Writing it off as another weird fad I decided to boycott cleansing water. This Garnier micellar water usually retails for around £4.99 but I noticed that this was on offer for £1 in my local supermarket. I'd seen a few people talking about this one in particular and thought maybe I'd been doing something wrong. Somehow it 'slipped' into my basket and well, the bottle was pink making it pretty easy on the eye for bathroom display purposes... I know, don't laugh.

How does Micellar Water work?

I'll keep it simple. Micellar water works by acting like a magnet. It pulls anything that isn't water from the skin eg. makeup, oil and dirt which makes it perfect for us girlies who struggle to get all that grime off. Or for those of us who don't fancy leaving our beds to remove our makeup. Come on, we've all done it!

How to use Micellar Water

All you have to do is pour a small amount of the cleansing water onto a cotton pad and wipe away. Simple, right? I did a little research about Micellar Cleansing Water and how its best used. Caroline Hirons (the skincare queen) suggests using micellar water first to remove all the oil and makeup from our skin. She then advises cleansing with a proper cleanser afterwards following on with your normal skincare routine. On the bottle it states that micellar water can be used alone but I find that I'm going through at least five cotton pads a go when I attempt to remove my full face thoroughly. What can I say. I like makeup. Plus I found this left a slight film on my skin. Not a grubby kind but it was there so I wanted to make sure I got anything that could potentially turn into a spot over night, off my face. I don't use it in the morning as double cleansing twice a day seems a little extreme. With only using it once a day, I've got over half a bottle left and I've been using it for almost two months. With a hefty amount of product, you definitely get a lot of bang for your buck.

Results

What I've noticed is that my skin feels and looks a lot cleaner/clearer. I've found that by using this before my normal skincare routine, oil and dirt are removed more effectivly leaving a clean canvas for my more luxurious products to take full effect. It's also scary seeing the dirt that comes off my face even when I dont wear makeup. What I really like about this is that although it's a cleanser, it still feels very hydrating. I'm so happy that I didn't just write this off as another fad. It's definitely been welcomed into my skincare family and I don't have any plans for it to leave.

This may be a silly question but have you tried Micellar Water yet? Let me know your thoughts/ favourite brands

  1. I have tried a few Micellar waters but this by far is my favourite and the most value for money. I didn't know how micellar water worked until I read this, I like the idea of it working like a magnet.

  6. I've never even heard about this product before now, but I personally do not like to wipe away my makeup these products always leave my skin feeling weird in some way sticky slimy or dried out and I have to use so many cleansing pads to get my makeup off, would be a total waste of my money. So I prefer washing my makeup off. so as long as I can wash my makeup away I'll give it a try.
