Covering Imperfections: The Highend Edition

Covering Imperfections Highend Concealers
Covering Imperfections Highend Concealers

Hello again lovelies, today I'm talking all about concealer! Covering blemishes is now a regular and tiresome part of my routine and let's not forget about the dark circles induced by too many Netflix binges either. A lot of us have been worshipping the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer which is amazing for the price but it just doesn't seem to be cutting it for me anymore. That's probably because mine is about to run out so I'm literally scraping the barrel with it. I had a little dig through my drawers and decided to reuse what I already had instead of wasting more money. Here's my thoughts on some of the highend concealers!

Benefit Boiing Industrial Strength Concealer (£17.50):
Benefit's claim that Boiing is 'industrial strength' sucked me in instantly. I did pick the lightest shade although it still is a little darker than I would prefer (bare in mind that I'm very pale). To get the most out of this concealer, I'd advise that you warm it up between your finger tips first. I've been using this under my eyes as it covers my dark circles really well although my only issue is that it slides easily making it not so great for covering blemishes. If I do use this on blemishes, it is after I've applied the rest of my makeup as a final touch up. I'd probably rate this concealer a lot more if I hadn't already tried MAC Studio Finish.

MAC Studio Finish (£15.50):
MAC claim that Studio Finish covers scars, blemishes, tattoos, discolouration ... and the list goes on. It also contains vitamin A, vitamin E and spf 35 which is always a bonus when it comes to cosmetics. I used to apply this using a concealer brush and had little success. Since then, I've been applying Studio Finish with my fingers and the results are completely different, just have a quick search on Youtube and you will see how amazing this is! Some people even use this as a foundation due to its high coverage. I'm actually feeling a lot more confident about my skin since I've been using this as it covers absolutely everything. I know that pots are well known for being unhygenic but MAC claim that this is non-blemishgenic (no I haven't just made that up). It hasn't broke me out or made my blemishes worse so I'll agree with that. One thing I will say is that this is waterproof. Now I always wash my face thoroughly at night and even when I move on to toning my face, the cotton pad is still removing this stuff. At least it's long wearing ey?

MAC Select Cover Up (£15.50):
Finally, MAC claim that Select Cover Up can be used to lighten, brighten, even out skintone and cover up blemishes. Now this one is a little different to the others as it is in liquid form. I've been using this under my foundation on particularly bad days as it takes away the dark marks and redness before I've even applied my foundation. I then apply the Studio Finish concealer over the foundation to cover anything that needs a little more attention. I really like that this is aimed to be applied under foundation as it means that you can blend it into your base without having obvious patches where your concealer has been. I'd recommend this concealer to those who don't need as much coverage but still want to cover up redness or dark marks as it does so perfectly.

I hope this helps anyone who is looking for a heavy duty concealer or just fancies a change. I'm all for embracing the skin we're in but I also know how it feels when your skin is playing up. My favourite out of the three is obviously Studio Finish as it has made a huge difference to my confidence. Do you have a favourite high end concealer? I'm tempted to try NARS next, what's your thoughts?

  2. I'm on the lookout for a new concealer, I'm using a really cheap ineffective one at the moment which is daft as my skin isn't good! I've used boing but it didn't do much for me, the Mac ones sound good! I've heard good things about NARS too!

  15. Oh this post is great. I'm always on the hunt for decent concealers to cover up the dark circles I got after chemotherapy. I haven't had much success with MAC foundations (I know!) so never bothered with their concealers either but I'm seriously considering investing in a studio finish concealer now. Thanks :)
