Nutra Nails At Home Non Chip Non Smudge Gel Nails: Too Good To Be True?

nutra nail gel perfect manicure review

Nutra nail gel perfect manicure review

I remember the days when I used to steal my mums nail polishes, making a huge mess and maybe even causing a spillage. Perhaps even trying to hide said spillage with a cleverly placed slipper and a tonne of deodorant... I'd like to think my nail polish applying skills have improved over time and my collection has steadily grown. I've been meaning to try some different brands as I've become a little too familiar with the Barry M range and I am running out of shades to try. My mum actually found this Nutra Nail Gel Perfect 5 Minute Gel Color Manicure set and I thought why not give it a go. The shade I used is 12306 Cha Cha.

Nutra Nail claims that it dries in 5 minutes with "no more dings, smudges or sheet marks" leaving you with long lasting gel nails. Plus you don't need to use a UV/LED light. I'm kind of over pillow marks on my nails so I was excited to give it a go. Inside the box you get a little tray which I have lost already but I didn't find it too helpful anyway. You also get a bottle of gel color, brush cleaner, a bottle of gel activator and of course the instructions.

Instructions:
You're meant to brush the gel activator over your nails on one hand so that they look wet and shiny then apply a thin layer of gel color immediately. Following this, you then clean the bush with the brush cleaner and swap the brushes around. You repeat this again to do a second coat and then the same goes for your other hand. Finally you're meant to add a final layer of gel activator to seal your nail like a top coat.

Thoughts?
The process was simple to follow although I did panic that I wasn't working quick enough. My first issue was the gel activator. When I was using it, my eyes were burning and the smell was pretty intense. I actually had to move my hands further away as a safety precaution. It does state on the bottle it is an eye irritant which isn't great when you're trying to look at your nails but I guess that is the price you pay right? After one coat my nails looked a little streaky but the instructions state that this is normal. I then repeated the process until my nails were done. My nails did dry extremely quick so I had a little well done moment and off I went. When I woke up I had no smudges, chips nothing! What I did find when I looked in the light were little lines in the polish as if the polish was chipped underneath the top layer. By the end of the day there were a few chips and a snapped nail and here's what it looked like by day three.

Have we all appreciated how lovely this looks...(cry face)? I'm so disappointed. This was meant to last longer than normal nail polish but it hasn't. I really loved the fact that it didn't smudge and initially it looked pretty good. I wonder if I didn't seal the ends properly as that is where a lot of the chipping has occurred. If you're really good with nails or know how to apply this properly, give it a go. You might like it but I don't think I'll be using this again. I haven't even attempted removing it yet as it is chipping at such a high rate so wish me luck with that!

Does anyone have any tips or experience using this product? Perhaps I've done something wrong? Other nail polish recommendations are welcome!

  3. The color looks very vibrant but I still very much prefer gel cause it last me for about 3 weeks and I am such a lazy person when it comes to nails stuff. x

  6. Ah no, not what you want after that effort! Will steer clear of this one, have to admit I have only ever done gel nails at salons (with Groupon vouchers!) pre-special occasions. Am a little sceptical on all the gel nail promises on the high street.

    Happy Easter lovely!

  11. I guess it really was too good to be true!!!!! What an awful result, such a shame as the idea is really good! Personally i'm not a fan of gel polish, I much prefer a nail strengthener under or over my normal polish instead!

  13. I know the problem. I had a nail polish with a lot of glitz and the removal was a nightmare. I think it took me almost an hour for it. After that I was so angry and got the nail polish simply thrown only in the trash. xD
Well, but the color is still very nice. Happy Easter. New outfit is online...

  14. That is so disappointing! I have used the UV nail polish at home, and it doesn't chip but occasionally the entire nail's polish will fall off in one go lol.

  17. I thought this nail polish would be great, but I guess I'm not the only one who was let down by this product. Every time I purchase a "fast drying" or "no smudge" nail polish, they don't work at all! And I'm an impatient person so I really badly need a non-smudge nail polish :(

  24. I tried writing this earlier today but it kept clearing it for some reason lol..BUT have you ever tried the brand "Morgan Taylor"? Its a nail polish brand that's supposed to have a similar effect as gels without having to use a UV light. I normally have a problem with chipping but with this brand it stay on very nicely! I even had a nail tech ask me if i had gels on!

    P.S. I love your pictures/photography!

  28. If I can remember rightly it's a Nikon D3200. I don't have any lighting at the moment I just wait until I get good natural light into my room. It's so hard following the sun around so I'll have to invest in a light box sooner or later! Thanks Alex

  32. Oh dear, shame these didn't work for you, but that is not gel polish if it isn't cured with a UV light, have you used gel polish? It's so good, doesn't chip for atleast a week and a half.
