Handmade Wall Art: Cross Stitch Designs

Handmade wall art. Cross stitch designs

Hello there! I've been working all week like a busy bee or should I say Queen B (see what I did there) creating these handmade wall arts. I love the idea of using art to brighten up a home or even to personalise it. It just really makes a home feel homely. I know you can get printables online but I have refused to top up my printer ink since I finished uni. I never want to use that pile of rubbish again. Anyways, I had a lot of aida (material for cross stitching) and a few old picture frames in one of my craft boxes so I thought I'd give it a go myself. If you want to try this, you don't need to use aida, you could use any material you have in your home. Here's how I did it...

First of all I cut my material down to size (I used an old photo as guidance). Now here comes the mind blowing part. I'd like to share with you a little secret that I found for cross stitching your own patterns. Ok, so it's not a secret but I didn't know about it until a few days ago and I wish I had know this before. There is a website where you choose a font and type in the words you'd like to cross stitch. The generator then creates a cross stitch version for you to use as guidance. You can find the website here. It certainly made life a little easier. So after I'd completed the stitching, I framed all the pieces.

I'm actually really surprised at how well they turned out. I'm considering hanging them on the wall as I quite like them in a three. On the other hand, they look really cute scattered around my dressing table and desk area so I'm really torn. Maybe you can help me choose?

Where would you put them?

  11. My grandma made me a massive cross stitch design with my name on it when I was born, ha it was hung up on the wall! I think I like the idea of them in a frame on a dressing table and around the house like that. I guess it depends how much space you have. Otherwise, put them on the wall they will look lush !

  13. Absolutely love the Gossip Girls one, I just can't get enough of Blair Waldorf. Great work, I'd love to try something like myself but unfortunately I have really manly hands and just don't have the patience to create anything as delicate and cute as this haha!
